What is it?

WSG's Career Conversion Programme (CCP) for Wholesale Trade Professionals is a dynamic initiative designed to support the wholesale trade sector. This programme serves a dual purpose:

  • For existing companies: It empowers businesses to train and reskill their current workforce, enabling employees to excel in redesigned and enhanced roles as companies undergo transformative changes.
  • For job seekers: It creates exciting opportunities for new entrants and mid-career switchers to break into the thriving wholesale trade sector.

The CCP for Wholesale Trade Professionals supports companies undergoing transformation and job redesign. It helps employers enhance PMET job roles in job families like:

Our Programme Partner collaborates closely with participating companies to craft on-the-job training (OJT) plans for both new hires and existing employees. These plans can be flexibly structured, offering either a blend of classroom learning and hands-on experience or a fully immersive OJT approach, tailored to each company's unique needs and goals.

Under the CCP for Wholesale Trade Professionals, eligible participants will undergo extensive skills conversion that aligns with the Job Transformation Map for Wholesale Trade sector. Upon successful completion of CCP, participants will be well-equipped with the skills and knowledge required to pursue promising career opportunities in the wholesale trade sector.


Who can apply?

Candidates under the programme must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Minimum 21 years old
  • Must not be a shareholder[1] of the company, or its related companies
  • Must not be related to the owner(s)[2] of the company
  • Must not be undergoing any programmes funded by WSG concurrently

 

For New Hires (Mid-Career Switchers)

  • New Hire must have graduated or completed National Service for at least 2 years[3] prior at the point of application
  • New Hire must not be immediate ex-staff of the participating company or its related entities
  • New Hire must not have prior working experience or been in a similar job role[4] in previous employment
  • New Hire who has been out of the labour force or have a continuous employment gap of at least 2 years[5] prior to CCP commencement will be allowed to apply for CCP job roles similar to their previous jobs
  • New Hire’s training commencement should be within the first three months of employment

 

For Existing Employees

  • Existing Employee must be employed by the company for more than 1 year at the point of application
  • Existing Employee have not been enrolled for the same / similar programme[6] before

 

[1] Does not apply to shareholders who hold publicly traded shares in listed companies

[2] Refers to individuals with shareholding per ACRA profile for non-publicly listed companies

[3] Counted from the date of graduation from the latest qualification, or date of completion of National Service, whichever is later

[4] Was from a different occupation in the wholesale trade sector or same occupation but from a different sector

[5] The 2-year employment gap must be continuous and will exclude National Service during that period

[6] WSG’s Career Conversion Programme for Wholesale Trade Professionals and Associates 

 

All participating companies must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Registered or incorporated in Singapore
  • Committed to work with WSG or its appointed partner on the necessary administrative matters related to the programme

 

For participating companies taking on new hires and/or embarking on job redesign or reskilling initiatives with existing employees:

  • Impacted job roles should be paying a fixed monthly salary of least:
New Hire (Mid-Career Switchers) Job Redesign Reskilling for Existing Employees
PMET: $4,000 PMET: $3,500
  • Offer new hire a job role with a sound training plan that supports the growth of the company
  • There is a sound job redesign in place for existing employees that supports the growth of the company and meet intended outcomes.

New Hires (Mid-Career Switchers)

  • PMET: 6 months of structured OJT for Track 1-4
  • PMET: 4 months of structured OJT for Track 5-7

Existing Employees

  • PMET: 3 months of structured OJT

OJT and classroom training plan (if any) will need to be validated and endorsed by appointed Programme Partner before the commencement of CCP Training.

 

Salary support for the duration of training will be provided to employers at the following rates upon fulfilment of the corresponding requirements:

 

Standard Rate

(For Singapore Citizens / Permanent Residents aged 40 and above)

Up to 70% of monthly salary capped at $5,000 per month

Up to 90% of monthly salary capped at $7,500 per month  

Minimum fixed monthly salary of $3,500 (PMET) for existing employees

 

Minimum fixed monthly salary of $4,000 (PMET) for new hires

*No Absentee Payroll (AP) claim is allowed for CCP trainees

 

 [7] The enhanced salary support caps will apply to all CCP participants commencing training from 1 April 2024.
