What is it?

In line with “30 by 30” vision to raise Singapore’s food production from 10% to 30% by 2030, the agri-food sector is being transformed into one that will be highly productive, enabled by technology. As a result, new jobs created will demand higher-level skills and competencies in areas such as science, info-comm technology, engineering and mathematics.

The Career Conversion Programme (CCP) for Agritech Specialist aims to help mid-career Professionals, Managers, Executives and Technicians (PMET) jobseekers reskill with the necessary competencies to embark on a career conversion into the agritech sector, which has exciting job opportunities such as Farm Manager/Engineer/Technologist, Produce Specialist and Agronomist. Key job functions as an Agritech Specialist may include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead a team of farm technicians to achieve target yield and output
  • Produce production report and yield estimation on a timely basis for supply management of produce
  • Develop documentation of operation procedure and ensure quality standards
  • Conduct Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) induction/ refresher and other quality-related to operations staff
  • Assist operations in problem-solving and execute improvement initiatives
  • Perform GAP sustainable farming practices
  • Conduct internal audit and attend quality audit

Republic Polytechnic (RP) is the Programme Manager of the six-month programme, which comprises of facilitated/classroom training by RP and structured on-the-job training (OJT).


Who can apply?

All participating companies must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Registered or incorporated in Singapore with a UEN registered with ACRA
  • Engaged in work in the Agritech sector, such as agriculture farms growing leafy and fruit vegetables and companies supporting the farms with system and technology solutions
  • Able to offer employment directly related to the job for which the CCP is for, with a minimum fixed monthly salary of $2,500 that is aligned with the market rate
  • Offer the new hire a full-time position employment contract on permanent terms or on contract terms that are no less than one (1) year
  • Willing to consider new hires who were not in a similar job role prior to joining the programme
  • Be committed to the CCP training arrangements and provide structured OJT training for the new hire
  • Be committed to work with WSG and RP on the necessary administrative matters related to the CCP

 

Candidates eligible for the programme must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Minimally 21 years old
  • Graduated or completed National Service for at least 2 years1 prior at the point of application
  • Possess at least a relevant diploma/degree in Science, Engineering, ICT or Business
  • New job role should be substantially different from previous job role(s), hence require training for career conversion
  • Must not be a shareholder2 of the company, or its related companies
  • Must not be immediate ex-staff of the participating company or its related entities
  • Must not be related to the owner(s)3 of the company

How does it work?

The employing company will receive the following funding upon the fulfilment of the corresponding requirements:

Salary Support

Up to 70% of monthly salary, capped at $4,000/month

Up to 90% of monthly salary, capped at $6,000/month

For Singapore Citizens (SC) aged 40 and above and/or have been unemployed for 6 months or more.

Course Fee Support

Full Course Fee: $11,800 (excl. GST)

Up to 70% of the course fees (excl. GST), capped at $8,260

Up to 90% of the course fees, i.e. $10,620

For SC / Singapore Permanent Resident trainees sponsored by SMEs or mature SC trainees aged 40 years old and above.
